man and dog in water. at around 3pm in the afternoon the borth #rnli lifeboat was out on an exercise when hm coastguard asked them to divert to help a man and his dog in difficulty in the sea at ynyslas. the hm coastguard borth rescue team were also tasked. by the time the lifeboat arrived on scene the man had managed to get himself and his dog back to the beach where he was met by the borth coadtguard team. thus the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station. the man was very wet and cold, so the coastguard team advised him to go to hospital to be checked out. 2018, september 29 - broken down speedboat. on saturday afternoon at around 4:30 the borth hm coastguard rescue team was called out to reports of a small motorboat in ynyslas having engine difficulties.borth coastguard located the vessel and called for the rnli lifeboat from borth to assist. the borth lifeboat launched and arrived on scene to find the speed boat had suffered engine failure and was at anchor near a sandbank on the south side of the dyfi bar. the boat had eight people on board. borth coastguard also requested the launch of the aberdyovey rnli lifeboat to assist the recovery of the vessel and it's crew. after a discussion between the volunteer lifeboat crews it was decided that, due to the dropping tide, the best course of action would be for borth lifeboat to tow the boat out to deeper water before transferring the boat to the larger aberdovey lifeboat to take it back to it's launch site. 2018, august 29 - upturned kayak. at 10:15 on the morning of wednesday 29 august borth lifeboat was asked to search for a kayak and potential casualty in dyfi estuary near the mouth of river clettwr. the lifeboat travelled by road to ynyslas boatyard to launch in the river leri. once launched proceeded to the mouth of the clettwr where hm coastguard borth gave directions to the position of the kayak. upon arriving it appeared that the kayak had not been used for some time, so the search for a person was terminated. the kayak was taken to the harbourmaster at aberdyfi and then the lifeboat returned to the river leri to be recovered. 2018, july 17 - person cut-off. on tuesday 17 july at 10 pm the lifeboat was launched to a report of a person cut off on the north reef. the crew found a local man on a paddle board who confirmed that he had been fishing on the reef shortly before and had seen no one else on the reef at the time. the crew informed milford haven cg who confirmed that the first informant had rang back to say the person they saw was on his way back to shore. the lifeboat carried out a quick search of the area as a precaution and then returned to station. 2018, july 13 - campervan cut-off. on friday 13 july at 8:30 pm the lifeboat was asked to assist hm coastguard borth in aiding a man in a campervan at ynyslas. the incoming tide had surrounded the van with the occupant still inside. by the time the lifeboat arrived the occupant had made his way to safety. the lifeboat crew tried but were unable to move the van, so as no life was in danger the van was left until the tide receded. 2018, july 7 - boy in difficulty. on saturday 7 july at 4pm the hm coastguard borth, the borth rnli beach lifeguards and the borth lifeboat were called out to help a young boy who was trapped by the sea on the wrong side of the rock groynes. his mother was able to assist him to safety before any of the rescue units arrived on scene, so the lifeboat and lifeguards were stood down. 2018, july 5 - sinking kayak. on thursday 5 july borth lifeboat was called out and rescued the two kayakers about half a mile out to sea. borth rowing club were training in borth bay when they encountered a kayak with two occupants in the water. a further kayak was trying to tow them. the rowing club rang milford haven coastguard and advised that the two in the water were unable to get back on the kayak and were looking very tired. borth lifeboat was called out and rescued the two kayakers about half a mile out to sea. there was a slight chop so the kayakers were struggling in the conditions and they were very tired by the time the lifeboat arrived on scene. the kayak had taken on a lot of water and was barely floating, once this water was drained the ilb took the kayak on board and returned to borth beach to be met by the borth coastgurad rescue team. 2018, june 30 - broken down speedboat. at 3:45 in the afternoon the borth inshore lifeboat was called out to assist a small inflatable power boat that seemed to be in trouble near the ynyslas turn car park. on arrival the lifeboat discovered that the boat had run out of fuel and the occupant was attempting to rescue himself by paddling to shore. he was struggling against the off-shore winds and making very slow progress. after a short discussion the lifeboat crew determined that the safest approach was to tow the boat back to the lifeboat station. once safely back on shore we determined that the occupant was safe and well, so he waited for his friends to come pick him and his craft up. the lifeboat crew were pete, rhys and simon t. 2018, june 24 - capsized kayak. having returned from the previous call the crew were just putting the lifeboat on the trailer when they were told by the rnli lifeguards on borth beach that there were a couple in the water who had fallen from a capsized kayak. the lifeboat launched and by the time they arrived on scene two rowing boats, one from trireme ynys mon rowing club and one from clwb rhwyfo aberystwyth rowing club, that were taking part in the borth rowing club annual rowing regatta, had taken the casualties on board. the rowing boats returned the casualties to the beach where they were met by the rnli lifeguards who ensured that they were unhurt. the lifeboat recovered the kayak and returned to the beach. we would like to pass our thanks to the rowing crews who acted decisively to aid a couple who were in trouble. the lifeboat crew were lee (helm), simon h and bean. 2018, june 24 - broken down speedboat. whist returning to station after a training exercise the lifeboat crew spotted a speedboat with the engine cover off. the lifeboat approached the speedboat and asked the single occupant if he needed any assistance. the occupant advised that he had been in borth bay but that his craft had developed engine trouble. he was confidant that he could help himself but thought that given the distance it would be useful if the lifeboat could tow him back to ynyslas boatyard. the lifeboat took him in tow and took him to the river leri. the crew were simon h (helm), lee and bean. 2018, june 21 - man cut-off. borth inshore lifeboat was launched to reports of a man cut off by the tide near clarach. assisted by bad achub aberystwyth lifeboat, borth landed on the beach in challenging conditions, recovered the casualty and transferred him to the larger aberystwyth lifeboat to be taken ashore in aberystwyth harbour. borth crew were martyn, rhys, ian and pete. 2018, may 29 - inflatable. on the return to station from the previous callout the crew were tasked to reports of a second dinghy blown out to sea, this was recovered and returned to the owners on shore. borth coastguard spoke to the owners about the risks of using inflatable dinghy's when there is a brisk off shore breeze -
